The positive electrode of a primary cell is provided with a metal wire or strip covered by a chemically inert material, e.g. rubber, ebonite, polyvinyl-chloride, &c., which is made electrically conductive by addition of graphite and/or carbon. The covered wire is inserted in the depolarizing mix as a straight wire or U- shaped or spiralled.
