Abstract
<PICT:0775274/III/1> In a process for the condensation of a vapour, such as gasoline, the vapour is first cooled to effect partial condensation, and the remaining vapour and the condensate are then separately compressed to a pressure such that, when the compressed vapour and condensate are subsequently mixed, the mixture is substantially in the liquid state; the pressure on this liquid is then raised. In the case of gasoline, the liquid may then be subjected to stabilization. Gasoline vapours at a pressure of about 1.0 to 1.5 atm. are introduced through line 10 into cooler 13, where partial condensation occurs; and the condensate and the remaining vapours enter separator 14. The vapours are compressed to 4 atm. in compressor 17, and then mixed with the condensate pumped through line 15 by pump 16. The mixture is passed through cooler 18 to ensure that it is practically wholly in the liquid state, and is then transferred by pump 19 to stabilizing column 12, which operates at a pressure of 10 atm. Pumps 16 and 19 are conveniently designed as a two-stage pump driven by a single motor. Column 12 operates in the usual manner; liquid stabilized gasoline being obtained as bottom product, while light hydrocarbon vapours (C4 and below) are withdrawn overhead. Any water present in the initial gasoline vapours is withdrawn from separator 14 via line 21.
