Abstract
1,198,428. Extraction of caprolactam. BP CHEMICALS (U.K.) Ltd. 21 Aug., 1968 [18 July, 1967], No. 32856/67. Heading C2C. Caprolactam is recovered from mixtures containing (a) alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxides, alkoxides or aryloxides together with (b) caprolactam and/or alkali metal or alkaline earth metal derivatives of caprolactam, and (c) methanol by extraction from the mixture into a liquid hydrocarbon and separating the liquid hydrocarbon from the mixture. The caprolactam in the hydrocarbon extract may be separated from the hydrocarbon in any convenient way. In Examples 1 to 3, cyclohexanone obtained as the co-product of caprolactam and/or its alkali metal or alkaline earth metal derivatives is also extracted according to the present invention.
