Abstract

1336730 Liquid/liquid extraction SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 26 Nov 1970 [28 Nov 1969] 56238/70 Heading B1F In a process for the separation of components in a liquid starting mixture introduced at 1 into a multistage liquid-liquid extractor 2 using a selective solvent boiling higher than the starting mixture and introduced at 3, in which solvent at least one of the components is more readily soluble and at least one of the other components is less readily than the other component or components, a raffinate phase containing predominantly the less readily soluble component or components is drawn off at 4, an extract phase containing predominantly the more readily soluble component or components is drawn off at 5 and passed to distiller 6, from which distiller two streams 13 and 17 are obtained which contain the less readily soluble component or components from the extract phase 5, stream 13 having a higher boiling range than stream 17, and stream 17 is recycled to the extractor 2 at a stage nearer to the extract discharge 5 than the stage at which starting mixture is supplied from 1. The separation of hydrocarbon is exemplified.
