773,613. Mixing liquids in flow. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 8, 1955 [Sept. 24, 1954], No. 27634/54. Class 86 [Also in Group I] Apparatus for adding chemicals to water in a reservoir in proportion to the discharge of the water therefrom comprises two vertical co-axial cylinders 2, 3 of equal length the inner one, 3, being closed, as by a cover 9, at the top and opening through holes 4 near the bottom into the outer cylinder 2 which is. open at the top through holes 7 and at the bottom through an outlet 5 in the common bottom of the cylinders, the outlet pipe 5 dipping into a small cup 6 attached to the bottom of the cylinders and open to the reservoir.. Briquettes of the chemicals are placed in the inner cylinder and while the cover 9 is still open the reservoir is filled with water which also fills the cylinders. On closure of the cover, a fall in the water level in the reservoir produces a like fall in the outer cylinder, the water flowing through the holes 4. This water being lighter than the solution in the inner cylinder 3, rises therein displacing an equal quantity of the solution through the pipe 5 into the cup 6 and reservoir. The liquid capacity of the annulus between the cylinders may be reduced by arranging rods 8 therein. The cup 6 checks diffusion of the solution into the reservoir when the level of the water therein is steady.
