773,509. Sound-film or tape apparatus. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 13, 1955 [June 25, 1954; July 22, 1954], Nos. 18619/54 and 21368/54. Class 40 (2). In a magnetic tape record apparatus, the tendency for air to become trapped between the convolutions on the take-up spool is reduced by means of a resilient contacting member 12 arranged to press against the tape at a point in the proximity of the initial flexure of the tape as it is applied to the spool. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the members 12 are mounted on arm 13 mounted on adjustable friction bearings 14, the point of pivotation being arranged as near as possible to the roller 6 or other point acting as the final guide means. Another embodiment is described with reference to Fig. 5 in which the arm 58 carrying contacting member 59 is mounted for rectilinear movement.
