A hand loom shedding motion comprises heald levers 14 raised by a manually rotated cam 16 and a pattern chain 21 engaged by members 31 on the levers, the chain being advanced by pawls connected to the mechanism for manually operating the cam 16. When the cam 16, which is in the form of a hollow roller, is turned about its pivot 15 by a handle 40, the cam engages rollers 18 on the levers 14 and raises all the levers. A cam 32, mounted on the pivot 15, turns with the cam 16 and engages a roller 35 and a member 39 and causes a pawl 38 to move away from, and to free the pattern chain and also causes a pawl 36 to move upwardly and advance the chain by one step. When the handle 40 is subsequently lowered, those levers 14 whose members- 31 coincide with holes in the pattern chain are lowered, the other levers remaining in the raised position. A counterweight 41 is provided. A weighted foot 37 keeps the pawl 36 against the patterns chain. Pattern chain. The chain comprises a number of transverse bars 22 connected by two springs 23. The end bars 24 are each half the width of one of the bars 22 and have slots 28 in which the ends of the springs are anchored by pins 29. A screw 26 secures the two end bars together. Holes 30 are provided in the bars 22 according to the pattern to be woven.
