Abstract

A process for making a welding electrode consisting of a wire core coated with a pulverulent flux containing alkali silicate as a binder, is characterized in that the coating material is heated and then pressed on to the wire core which also is heated. The heating of the core may be effected by the drawing or straightening of the core. The coating material may be heated out of contact with air. The material may be pressed on to the core by means of a screw press which mixes and conveys. The temperature inside the screw press may exceed the boiling point (at 1 atmosphere) of the liquid ingredients of the material.
