Abstract
1,020,238. Making welding electrodes. SONDURE ELECTRIQUE AUTOGERE. Nov. 9, 1962 [Nov. 16, 1961], No. 42340/62. Heading B3A. A tubular welding electrode having a core of granular material is made by drawing a metal strip 3 through a first vertical die 4 to form an open tube 5 drawing the tube 5 through a vat 17 containing a paste 15 composed of the granular material dispersed in a viscous liquid and closing the tube 5 by means of a second vertical die 10 located at the bottom of the vat 17. The electrode is subsequently baked to evaporate or decompose the viscous liquid, the vapour or gas so formed escaping through a narrow gap remaining between the edges of the tube.
