771,457. Milling. ROBERTSON & CO., Ltd., W. H. A. Sept. 5, 1955 [Sept. 15, 1954], No. 26729/54. Class 83 (3). A milling-machine comprises means for raising and lowering a cutter-head and for rotating a dial-indicator having two adjustable parts 5, 10 carrying dogs 8, 12 which co-operate with limit switches 15, 16 to determine two cutting-positions. In a plano-miller for milling ingots, the dog 8 is set to stop the lowering of the cutter when a desired depth-of-cut is reached. When the ingot has been machined the head is raised to a position determined by a switch 14, the ingot is turned over and the cutter is lowered to a position determined by the switch 16 to machine the other side of the ingot. The depths-of-cut are indicated by scales 7, 11. The cutter-head is moved by screws engaging nuts rotated by worm-gearing. One of the screws has rack-teeth rotating a pinion connected to the dial.
