771,223. Inductor alternators. SELECTRA, Ltd., and KREBS, E. W. Sept. 28, 1955, No. 27625/65. Class 35. The D.C. excited poles 12 of a heterapolar inductor alternator have a span equal to one rotor slot pitch or a multiple thereof, and are divided, by slots 13 accommodating the A.C. windings A, into a central portion and two outer portions of the same total area. By this means the total pole-flux is substantially constant while linkage with the A.C. windings is controlled by the rotor teeth. The invention is shown for a three-phase machine having six poles, but a four-pole single-phase machine is also described. By connecting the exciting winding in series-parallel arrangements, and by the use of damping windings on the poles, the harmonics are eliminated. For generating higher frequencies the stator poles may carry teeth, in which case the half-tooth span at either end of the pole may be removed without disturbing the equivalent effect. The openings of slots 13 is preferably small but may be substantially equal to a rotor slot pitch when this is small.
