Abstract

The invention comprises siloxy titanes of the general formula (R3SiO)4Ti, wherein R is a monovalent hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon radical. They may be prepared by reacting acyloxy silanes of the formula R3SiOOCHR1 with titanium esters of the formula Ti(OR11)4, wherein R1 and R11 are monovalent hydrocarbon radicals. Mixed titanes are prepared when two or more different acyloxy silanes are used. Examples of R, R1 and R11 are methyl, ethyl, octadecyl, cyclohexyl, cyclohexenyl, vinyl, allyl, octadecenyl, phenyl, tolyl, xenyl and benzyl; and R may also be halogenated, e.g., chloromethyl, bromophenyl, trifluorotolyl, trifluorovinyl, chlorohexafluorocyclopentenyl and heptachloroxenyl. The examples describe the preparation of (1) tetrakis-(trimethyl-siloxy)-titane; (2) the compound [(CH3)2CH2=CH.SiO]4Ti; (3) the compound [(C6H5)(CH3)2SiO]4Ti; and (4) the compound [(C18H37)(C2F3)CH3SiO]4Ti. Th compounds are useful as water-repellents and as curing catalysts for polysiloxanes.
