Abstract

An organic silicon or germanium oxide polymer in an amount between 1 part per ten million and 100 parts per million is added to a bituminous substance. Specified silicon polymers include linear alkyl polysiloxanes, e.g. di-methyl or di-ethyl silicone polymers or their propyl, butyl, amyl, or cetyl analogues; silicone resins or elastomers; aryl silicones, e.g. phenyl silicone; vinyl and allyl silicones, alkyl aryl silicones e.g. methyl phenyl silicone; Germanium polymers specified include dimethyl germanium oxide polymer and alkyl aryl polymers.
