Abstract
Dithio-oxamide is prepared by reacting cyanogen and hydrogen sulphide in an aqueous medium containing a basic catalyst at 0-100, preferably 10-40 DEG C. Basic catalysts include the alkali metal and alkaline earth metal hydroxides, the alkali metal carbonates, ammonia and aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic amines, such as methylamine, diethylamine, tri - n - propylamine, ethylenediamine, benzylamine, aniline, 1-naphthylamine, p-toluidine and piperidine. The preferred concentration of catalyst is from 0.01 N to 1.0 N. The hydrogen sulphide and cyanogen are preferably used in a mol. ratio of 2 : 1. In examples, hydrogen sulphide and cyanogen are gradually and simultaneously added to aqueous solutions of (1) ammonia, (2) sodium hydroxide, (3) triethylamine, and (4) aniline.
