Abstract

A poliomyelitis vaccine product comprises an aqueous solution containing at least one type of dead antigenic poliomyelitis virus e.g. Types 1, 2 and 3, which may contain less than 18 gamma protein nitrogen per ml., and benzethomium chloride in a concentration in gm/ml of 1:20,000 ad 1:50,000. Suitable vaccines may be produced from trypsinized macerated monkey kidney tissue, the residue cells being allowed to multiply, the medium inoculated with poliomyelitis virus, the mixture incubated, the fluid harvested and the living virus inactivated by treatment with formaldehyde, ultraviolet radiation or suitable means.
