Abstract

770,303. Waveguide accessories; coupling circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BISPHAM, G. E. April 5, 1955 [April 9, 1954], No. 10550/54. Class 40 (8). A carriage 13 carries a probe 17 extending through a longitudinal slot 14 in a waveguide or coaxial line 1, the carriage being mounted for longitudinal movement'along a rod 11 which is so disposed that irregularities in the rod 11 produce changes in the depth of penetration of the probe appreciably smaller in magnitude than the irregularities. The carriage is provided with a small wheel 14 which runs along an accurately machined longitudinal flat 10 on the exterior of the line 1, the carriage being biased on to the flat by springs 19. Pads 21 mounted on either side of the wheel 14 clean the flat 10 as the carriage is moved along. A vernier scale 20 is mounted alongside the line 1. The coaxial line shown comprises several sections of outer conductor joined by means of flanges 3. The supporting spacers 6 for the inner conductor (or inner conductor sections) 5 are mounted by means of metal pins 9 within split rings 7. The rings 7 have the same internal diameter as the outer conductor and are mounted in recesses in one end of each outer conductor section.
