Abstract

770,111. Electric hot plates. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Nov. 16, 1954 [Nov. 16, 1953], No. 33179/54. Class 39(3) An electric hot plate comprises a casing with a rigid bottom wall 1 and a flexible sheet metal top wall 4 tending to assume the configuration of the bottom of a vessel placed thereon. The casing is filled with a. mass of resilient insulating material 10 e.g. a pad of high silica glass fibres resiliently supporting a flexible resistance :heating element 5 in good heat-conducting relation with the top wall 4, which is pressed upwardly with substantially uniform pressure by the insulating material 10. A sheet 9 of insulating material, e.g. a silica glass cloth impregnated with aluminium oxide, is interposed between the element 5 and the flexible top 4. The resistance 5 is a ribbon of iron-chromium alloy in convolute and preferably serpentine form secured to terminal pins 6 in the bottom wall. The circular flexible metal top 4 is 0.002 ins. thick and is secured e.g. by welding to an inner flange 3 of a ring 2 welded to the base 1.
