Abstract

769,444. X-ray image amplifiers; optical viewers. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 12, 1954 [July 11, 1953], No. 20385/54. Classes 97(1) and 98(1) An X-ray image amplifier is provided with an optical device for viewing the screen comprising a viewing tube with an eyepiece at one end and divided into a plurality of lengths with pivoting or swivelling connections between them, and optical deflecting means at the joints. As shown (Fig. 3), the tube 10 containing the eyepiece 11 is ball-and-socket jointed to tube 7 which is similarly connected to tube 4. The latter swivels in the sleeve 27 fitted to the amplifier housing 2, containing the screen 3. Each joint contains a refracting prism system 18, 19, and the rays entering and leaving these are made parallel by lenses 12, 13, 15 and 16. In Fig. 4 the tubes swivel at the joints and may telescope also. The deflectors comprise prisms 20, 21, 22 and 23. Either of the systems may contain an erecting prism which is caused to rotate to maintain the image erect at all times. A further embodiment is described having pivoted tubes which are connected to the amplifier to permit swivelling movement. The tubes may be made to telescope.
