Abstract
769,235. Projectile-studs. REMINGTON ARMS CO., Inc. Feb. 9, 1955 [March 18, 1954], No. 3937/55. Class 89 (1). A stud to be explosively driven into a metalplate 14, of about the same thickness as the stud-diameter, comprises a substantially cylindrical shank 13 with an ogival point 10, the radius of curvature of which is not substantially greater than the shank-radius, and an ogival or conical tip 11 projecting from the point and coaxial with the shank. The tip is joined to the point through a surface 12 involving no shoulders perpendicular to the shank axis. The surfaces of the tip and point are polished to facilitate welding to the plate by the heat generated by the friction between the relatively moving surfaces of the stud and plate.
