A tank a for inflammable liquids such as petrol is protected from damage by an explosion inside the tank by a hinged cover b normally secured in its closed position by a rod c which ruptures in an explosion to release excessive pressure in the tank, the cover then being rapidly closed by a cable f provided with a spring e and passing through a yoke d on the cover, its end being secured to the hinge pivot g. The cable and spring being disposed outside the tank are readily inspected and replaced when necessary. Swiss Specification 265,376 is referred to.
