Class 39(3) In Figs 1, 2, a closure member 5 for a cavity 17 in the handle 3 of an electric iron is provided with terminals 13 to which conductors 14 of a supply lead 7 are removably connected. The lead 7 is clamped by members 8a, 8b secured to the closure member 5, and passes into the cavity 17 through a hole in the side of the handle. Each terminal 13 has a depending portion which is engaged by a resilient contact 16 connected to the heating element, and the member 5 is secured to the handle by a screw 6. Terminal screws 12 engage in bushes 11 which are pressed into the closure member. Alternatively, the bushes may be of rectangular cross section loosely inserted into holes of corresponding section, the bushes being retained in position by the contacts 16 An earthing bush 11 is provided. In a modification, Fig. 4, excessive heating of the conductors 14 is avoided by closure of the aperture beneath the terminals 13, two pairs of resilient contacts 21a, 21b being mounted on an insulating plate 20. By withdrawing the closure member 5 rearwardly after removal of the screw 6, ready access to the terminal screws 12 is possible for replacing the lead
