Abstract

768,153. Clothes pegs. COWAN, P. E. July 18, 1955 [July 17, 1954; March 21, 1955], Nos. 20883/54 and 8123/55. Class 44. [Also in Group XIV] A clothes peg 10 has a supporting member for retaining the peg in proximity to a line 15 with sufficient freedom of movement to allow the peg to be operatively engaged over such line and released therefrom, and which allows the clothes peg to be moved lengthwise of the clothes line to any position at which it may be required to be used, the supporting member comprising a length of flexible cord or filament 16 provided at its end remote from its associated clothes peg with a loop element adapted to encircle the clothes line. The clothes peg is of the type comprising two jaws 11 held together by the extended cranked ends of a helical spring 13. One end of the cord or filament 16 is passed through the central opening of the helical spring and the end of the cord or filament is doubled over and embraced by a metal tag 18 to prevent its withdrawal. The other end of the cord or filament is secured to a ring 17 forming the loop element by doubling over the end and securing it with a metal tag 20. The ring 17 can be coated to prevent corrosion or made of a non-corrodible metal such as brass or of a plastic material. In a modification, the ring 17 can be omitted and in place of it a loop is formed in the end of the cord or filament.
