Abstract

[Also in Groups X and XXIV] A self-propelled or tractor drawn soil compactor comprises cutting portions 36, 37 a compacting portion 38, a motor 14 driving eccentric weights rotatably mounted in a casing 16, see Fig. 5 (not shown) and standards 39, 40 carrying interchangeable weights 49, 50. The arrangement of the rotary weights is such that the compactor swings in opposed lateral directions into the soil whilst the portion 38 smooths the pre-treated ground into which liquid or cement paste may be fed through .pipes 55, 56 in the members 36, 37, 38. The eccentric weights may be vertically disposed, see Fig. 7 (not shown), or replaced by a cylinder having a tandem piston supplied alternately with liquid or fluid under pressure, see Fig. 8 (not shown).
