Abstract

1434096 Laying pipes underground ROLL MAPLAST AG 14 May 1973 [12 May 1972 31 May 1972] 22777/73 Heading F2P In a method of laying plastics pipe in the ground, the pipe 5 is surrounded by loose fill material 4 and the material 4 and the pipe 5 are jointly vibrated to compact the fill material around the pipe. In one arrangement, as shown, a vibrating ram 7 is placed above the trench to compact the fill material. In another arrangement, a vibration transducer (17) (Fig. 2, not shown) is introduced into the pipe with a layer of silicon grease (18) or other transmitting medium. The pipe may be of polyethylene and is initially covered by 20-30 cm. of granular fill material which is reduced about 10 cm. by the vibration. The fill material may be sand or gravel.
