Abstract

767,606. Saw-tooth generating circuits. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. May 23, 1955 [June 8, 1954], No. 16831/54. Class 40(6) In a miller transitron saw tooth generator of the type in which the miller capacitance is coupled between anode and grid through a cathode follower, the transitron coupling between screen and suppressor grids is of the direct current type and a variable point in the cathode circuit of the cathode follower is connected to the screen and suppressor grids so that part of the positive going fly back voltage wave may retrigger the sweep when the anode potential reaches a predetermined level. In the circuit shown the miller capacitance discharges linearly until the anode potential of the valve V2 bottoms. The current is then diverted to the screen grid thus lowering the screen grid potential. The coupling through'R4 causes the suppressor potential to decrease correspondingly, hastening the lowering of the screen grid potential and this continues until the anode current is cut off. This causes the anode' potential to rise and when the corresponding potential at the tapping on cathode follower resistance' R8 has risen sufficiently the diode V3 conducts and supplies a positive going voltage to the screen and suppressor grids and initiating the next sweep. As the tapping of potentiometer R8 is moved towards the earthy end the repetition frequency of the output wave is decreased and the amplitude increased until a point is reached at which the circuit is no longer free running. Synchronizing or triggering voltages may be applied to the screen and suppressor grid through a diode V1.
