Abstract

The surface-crazing of a blend of 25 to 90 per cent of a styrene-acrylonitrile resin with a butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber on ageing or exposure to ozone is prevented by incorporating 0.1 to 5.0 per cent of a diprimary aromatic amine or a salt thereof. Amines specified are benzidine, o-, m- and p-phenylenediamines, p,p1 - diaminodiphenylmethane, p,p1 - diaminodiphenyldimethylmethane and dianisidine, and the salts may be the hydrochlorides, sulphates, oxalates, phosphates and maleates. The amines may be incorporated by milling, or the resin/rubber blend may be coated or dipped into an alcohol solution of the amine. The blends described in Specification 632,722 may be used. In the example, black and white stocks containing calcium stearate, titanium dioxide and carbon black and a rubber cross-linked with divinyl benzene, are used.
