Abstract
The invention comprises substituted methanes of the general formula <FORM:0766397/IV(b)/1> wherein A represents a cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical or a pyridyl radical, n being 0 or 1 when A is a cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical, and n being 0 when A is a pyridyl radical, B represents an aromatic hydrocarbon radical and D represents an N-pyrrolidinyl or N-piperidinyl radical which may be C-alkyl substituted, and the preparation thereof by heating a halogenomethane of the general formula <FORM:0766397/IV(b)/2> wherein A, n and B have the above significance and R represents a halogen atom, with pyrrolidine or piperidine or a C-alkyl substituted derivative thereof. Salts of the above substituted methanes are also referred to. The group A may be a cyclohexyl, hexahydrotolyl, dipentenyl, cyclo-octyl, cyclo-octenyl or camphanyl radical, the group B may be a phenyl or tolyl radical, and the group D may be a N-pyrrolidinyl or N-piperidinyl radical or a C-methyl, C-ethyl or C-butyl derivative thereof. A suitable method for preparing the above compounds using the above process is to react the required cycloalkyl aryl ketone or aryl heterocyclic ketone, or the corresponding carbinol, with thionyl chloride to form the corresponding chloromethane of the above general formula, wherein R represents chlorine, which is then reacted with the pyrollidine or piperidine reactant. In the examples the following compounds are prepared: cyclohexyl-phenyl-N-pyrrolidinylmethane is obtained from cyclohexyl-phenylchloromethane and pyrrolidine; camphanylphenyl - N - pyrrolidinylmethane of the formula: <FORM:0766397/IV(b)/3> is obtained from camphanyl - phenylchloromethane and pyrrolidine; phenyl-(b -pyridinyl)-N-piperidinylmethane is obtained from piperidine and phenyl - (b - pyridinyl) - chloromethane which may be prepared in the form of its hydrochloride salt from which the free base may be liberated by treating phenyl-(b -pyridinyl)-carbinol with hydrogen chloride to form the corresponding hydrochloride salt which is then treated with thionyl chloride; and o - tolyl - (b - pyridinyl) - N - pyrrolidinylmethane is obtained from pyrrolidine and o - tolyl - (b - pyridinyl) - chloromethane which may be prepared by a similar method to that disclosed in the previous example.
