Abstract
765,705. Game-joints. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd. July 8, 1955 [July 9, 1954], No. 20188/54. Class 38(1). In jointing a pair of multi-core cables having thermoplastic insulation, tubes of thermoplastic material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, which have been expanded when heated and cooled in the expanded state, are slid over the jointed conductors so as to overlap the insulation thereof and are heated to cause them to contract down on to the said insulation. After binding the joints a large, expanded, thermoplastic tube is passed over them so as to overlap the cable sheaths and is similarly contracted down on to said sheaths by heating. The armouring wires are then replaced and if outer sheaths are provided, a further expanded tube is slid over the joint and contracted to unite them. The overlapping parts of the tubes and cable insulation may be sealed by moulding rings of polyvinyl chloride over them or coating the inner surface of the tube ends and/or the outer surface of the cable insulation with a solvent or cement to cause the parts to unite after the tube has been contracted. Alternatively a tape of plastic material having an adhesive on one or both surfaces may be applied over the overlapping parts.
