Abstract
765,344. Agglutinated fibrous sheet materials; laminated materials. FIBREGLASS, Ltd. Oct. 18, 1954 [Jan. 18, 1954], No. 1389/54. Class 140. A method of manufacturing resin-impregnated fibrous mats, bats or other bodies comprises moistening the body by spraying it with water or other liquid and subsequently feeding powdered resinous material from above at a controlled rate on to the body whilst it is being vibrated. The bottom surface of the mat bat or other body may be sprayed additionally with water or other liquid to form a barrier to the passage of the powder. The fibrous body may comprise fibres supported on a foraminous mould to which vibration is imparted. Or after formation on a foraminous mould the fibrous body may be removed from the mould and placed on a vibrating support. The more bulky bats after compression and heating may be utilized in the form of semi-rigid bats or boards for heat and sound insulating purposes. Thinner mats, which may consist of glass fibres, may be laminated under heat and pressure.
