Class 126 A gas-stove comprises a plurality of spaced horizontal shelves each constituted by a flue located to receive combustion products from a burner and having internal fins which are more closely spaced towards the outlet for combustion products than near the inlet. The stove shown comprises a casing 11 housing shelves 9 above a refractory partition 18 and a burner 7 below it. Side flues 8 and a central flue 10 are also provided. The three pairs of lower shelves support food to be cooked or warmed whilst the upper pair provide "top heat" for the upper food supporting shelves and each shelf is hollow and formed internally with fins 15, 16, 17, Fig. 3, the fins being disposed longitudinally of the shelf and of such a length that hot gases from the burner 7 on passing from the flue 8 associated with the shelf to the flue 10 meets ever increasing fin surface as it nears the latter flue. The inlet and outlet of each shelf is constituted by an apertured plate 11 the sizes of the apertures being varied from back to front of each shelf and from top to bottom of the stove such that uniform heating of the stove contents may result. A small screen 19 is situated below the inlet end of each of the shelves 9, other than the two lowest ones, or each of some of them, so as to screen food on the shelf below that shelf from direct radiation from the associated flue 8. The stove may be used for purposes other than the preparation of food. A thermostat control element is located in the flue 10.
