Abstract
764,813. Keying carrier frequencies; valve circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. March 9, 1955, No. 6885/55. Classes 40(5) and 40(6) An oscillator is keyed on and off by a voltage applied to a rectifier 15 shunting at least part of the frequency determining resonant circuit, to vary its resistance above and below the critical value allowing or preventing oscillation. The voltage may be applied from a bias source 20, through contacts of a relay 19 to the rectifier load circuit 16, 21 the resistor 17 preventing sparking at the relay contacts. The oscillator may comprise two capacitors 6, 7 connected to the grid and cathode of a triode valve, and shunted by a series resonant circuit 8, 9 and grid leak resistor 5, the rectifier 15 effecting shunting an indicator 2 in its cathode circuit, which resonates with the capacitor 7 at a frequency very much below the frequency generated. Two such oscillators feeding a common output through buffer amplifiers, and of equal frequency, may each have individual output detectors operating relays to render, as above, the other oscillator inoperative, only one oscillator therfore being operative at a time and the other acting as a stand-by for automatically replacing the other.
