Abstract

591,385. Valve circuits. BRITISH INSULATED CABLES, Ltd.:, QUAYLE, J.C., and JONES, P. May 7, 1945, No. 11557. [Class 40 (v)] An arrangement for protecting a thermionic valve against excess current comprises a shunted self-restoring relay in the anodecathode circuit which when operated by excessive current increases negative bias in the grid circuit and removes the shunt from the relay winding. In the Figure, an oscillator circuit for radio frequency heating, is shown as an example incorporating the arrangement. When relay RL, shunted .by resistance R2, operates from excessive anode current, the contact RLC1. opens and connects the relay coil and its shunt in series with the grid bias resistance R1, so increasing the negative grid bias. The simultaneous removal of the shunt R2 renders the relay more sensitive so that it is retained until the anode current falls below a certain small amount. Resistance R3 is a permanent shunt to adjust operating conditions for the particular relay.
