Class 98(2) A cell unit comprising a number of main cells through which the film is to travel each provided with an auxiliary cell enclosing propelling means for circulating a treating liquid and connected to the main cell at upper and lower portions thereof, is characterized by clamping means to clamp the main cells together and communicate means to afford passage of the liquid from one main cell to another and make the liquid homogenous. Individually each main cell with its auxiliary cell and propelling means is of the pattern of the main and auxiliary tanks and propelling means of Specification 737,539. The communicating means may be passages cut in the central portions of contiguous main cells or may be connecting pipes from one auxiliary cell to another. As shown both of these communicating means are provided, thus main cells 1a, 1b, 1c connected to auxiliary cells 3 having propelling means 6, 7 by passages 4, 5 are held together by external girdles, or inverted U clamps (not shown) on adjacent side walls 2, and have cut away passages 8 provided with sealing cords 13 in the side walls 2, end passages 8 of cells 1a, 1c being closed by partitions 9. The other communicating means are pipes 28, 29, 31 criss-crossing between the auxiliary cells 3, of which pipe 31 has a tap 34 for sampling the liquid in the unit. Pipe assembly 25, 35 for circulating a heat exchanging liquid, and collector 32 with pipe 33 for connection to a fresh liquid supply or to discharge may be provided.
