764,279. Venetian blinds. EDIT SOC., R.L. Feb. 2, 1955 [Feb. 4, 1954; Sept. 30, 1954], No. 3130/55. Class 20(3) A light weight roller blind comprises two kinds of alternately arranged slats 1, 2 made of extruded plastic, the main elements 1, of generally rectangular hollow section, having inclined upper and lower faces recessed at 3, 4 to engage enlargements 5, 6 or the connecting elements, or slats 2, which are preferably made of transparent material. The enlargements 5, 6 of the slats 2 are free to swing in the recesses in the slats 1 to permit the blind to roll upon its drum. When the blind is in an extended position, Fig. 2, a diffused illumination of the room is provided through the transparent slats 2 in which openings 11 merging into two tubular edge portions 7 can be provided for ventilating the room. Openings can be cut only in the lower portion of the blind so that by-drawing the lower slats together and the upper slats apart the room can be illuminated with diffused light without letting air into the room. In a modification, Figs. 5, 6, the main slats consist of a flat central portion 12, 13 formed with flanges 14, 15 which cooperate to prevent penetration of light when the blind is in the closed position. Spaced slots 12a, 13a are provided adjacent these flanges to receive the connecting elements. Each connecting element comprises a central portion, preferably made of translucent plastic, and comprising a central flat portion 16 and two enlarged edge portions 17 which fit into the tubular portions behind the slots 12a, 13a, and two end portions of tough material and preferably comprising metal plates of fork shape each having two arms 19 which engage the portions of the main slot beyond the slots. Ventilation gaps are formed between the connecting elements when the blinds are drawn apart.
