Abstract
764,182. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. NORTH AMERICAN AVIATION, Inc. Aug. 19, 1953, No. 22859/53. Class 135. An hydraulic regulating device for controlling a double-acting servomotor comprises a pilot valve 24, Fig. 1, continuously reciprocated by solenoids 29, 30 actuated by a constant frequency alternating current of substantially rectangular waveform and a slave valve 2 slidable in a casing 1 having a branched inlet port 10 an exhaust port 11 and motor ports 13, 14 to control the supply and exhaust of pressure liquid to and from the servomotor. The slave valve is centred in a bore 3 in the casing by springs 4, 5 and formed with lands 17, 18 co-operating with the ports 13, 14 and lands 15, 16 having grooves 19,9 therethrough connecting the inlet port 10 with end chambers 6a, 7a. Ducts 21, 22 in the casing connect these end chambers to a bore 20 on opposite sides of a centre land 27 of the pilot valve, which land normally oscillates about an exhaust duct 23 to exhaust equal amounts of liquid from the two end chambers to maintain the slave valve in balance and the ports 13, 14 masked. The solenoids 29, 30 are energized by current. received from push-pull drivers 33, 34, Fig. 2, driven by time-modulator triodes 35, 49 pulsed by blocking triode oscillators 36, 47, a pulse transformer 43, condenser 44 and resistances 45, 46. To move the pilot valve a D.C. imput signal is applied to the grid of the triode 35 by means of a diode 51 and resistances 52, 53, which signal timemodulates the pulse output from the triode 47 to the triodes 35, 49. The modulated signal is then sent to the driver 33 and through a phase inverter 54 to the driver 34 so that the positive and negative parts of the rectangular wave are of unequal duration. The pilot valve then moves so that for each cycle the land 27 connects one of the chambers 6a, 7a to exhaust for a longer period of time than the other chamber to unbalance the pressures acting on the two ends of the slave valve 2 which moves to connect one side of the servomotor to pressure and the other side to exhaust.
