Abstract

The invention comprises amino-sulphonic aryl esters having the general formula <FORM:0763980/IV(b)/1> in which R1 is an alkyl radical having from 1-4 carbon atoms and R2 is an aromatic radical which may be unsubstituted or substituted by alkyl or halogen groups and the process of preparing such compounds which comprises reacting a N-substituted aminosulphonic acid halide of the formula (R1)2N-SO2-X with a salt of a phenol or naphthol, the latter being of the formula R2OH, where R1 and R2 are as defined above and X is a halogen atom, e.g. chlorine. Suitable phenolic starting materials mentioned are alkyl- and halogen phenols and a - and b -naphthols which may be in the forms of alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or tertiary amine salts. Solvents mentioned include inert organic liquids such as ether, chlorobenzene, toluene and dioxane. Alcohols and aqueous reaction media may be employed. Examples relate to the reaction of dimethylaminosulphochloride in xylene with the sodium salts of appropriate phenols to obtain esters of phenol, 4-chlorophenol, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol, 2,4-dichlorophenol, o- and p-cresol and chlorosubstituted derivative thereof and a -naphthol and to the preparation of the 4-chlorophenyl ester of diethylaminosulphonic acid. The products are insecticides.
