Abstract
1387088 Process for preparing nitro substituted diphenyl ethers CHEMIEKOMPINAT BITTERFELD VEB 11 Sept 1973 [13 April 1973] 42575/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for preparing compounds of general Formula I in which X is halogen or an alkyl, alkoxy or alkylamino radical having up to three carbon atoms, substituents X present in the molecule being the same or different, n is 0, 1 or 2, m is 1 or 2, p and q are independently 0, 1, 2 or 3 in which a halobenzene of Formula II is reacted with a phenol of Formula III in the presence of aqueous KOH and of a chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbon, the last reaction component to be added, which may be the compound of Formula II or III or the potassium phenate formed by reaction of the compound of Formula III with the KOH being added over 2-6 hours at a temperature between the boiling point of the water/chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbon azeotrope and 180‹C., the greater part of the water present being removed azeotropically whereafter inorganic components are removed and the diphenyl ether is obtained by distillation.
