Abstract

763,870. Aerials. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. Nov. 26, 1954 [Nov. 26, 1953; Feb. 22, 1954; Aug. 25, 1954], No. 34390/54. Class 40(7) A wide-band aerial comprises a dipole constructed as two mechanically rigid grids, cages, or lattices each rigidly supported at a voltage node. The radiating elements may be constructed in any of a variety of forms, for example, six metal tubes 1 may be arranged in a hexagon to form a cage and the tubes extended to meet at an apex to which the feeder is connected. The elements themselves may be streamlined or they may be wholly or partially enclosed in a streamlined insulating cover. They are rigidly supported either by attaching them directly to the mast (Fig. 2) or through a short off-setting arm (Fig. 4). Two elements, each supported at voltage nodes, can be arranged vertically on off-set arms from the same mast to form a vertical dipole (Fig. 4). The elements when horizontal and of lattice form may be constructed as cantilevers extending out from the structure of the supports, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). Arrays of wide-band aerials according to the invention may be mounted on each side of an extensive support framework serving both as rigid support and reflector wall for the arrays. Adjustment of the radiating or receiving direction can be achieved by mounting the support framework on a central pivot point and spaced rollers running on a circular track (Fig. 7, not shown).
