Abstract

685,236. Aerials. G.S.V. (MARINE & COMMERCIAL), Ltd. Aug. 30, 1951 [Sept. 4, 1950], No. 21779/50. Class 40 (vii). An aerial system comprises an artificial ground plane and an upwardly divergent aerial structure including a plurality of rods set at an equal inclination to an axis normal to the ground plane so that their free upper ends lie substantially in a circle. In one embodiment the ground plane comprises four equally spaced rods lying in a horizontal plane and screwed into internally threaded socket pieces mounted in a lower socket casting. Mounted on top of the lower casting but insulated therefrom by a bush of insulating material is an upper casting having threaded holes for the upwardly diverging aerial members. These may be two, three or more rods which preferably make an angle of about 15 degrees with the axis. If desired, each of the rod members may be made with a hinge and retaining collar so that the antenna may be quickly folded up for transport. A coaxial feeder may be led up inside the support post for attachment to the antenna. In an embodiment for attachment to a vehicle roof the ground plane rods are not used, the roof itself acting as a ground plane, Fig. 3 (not shown). Constructional details are described with reference to a sectional view, Fig. 1 (not shown), of the system.
