Abstract
763,789. Hand-irons. GENERAL ELEC. TRIC CO. Jan. 20, 1955 [Jan. 21, 1954], No. 1801/55. Class 138 (2). An electric iron comprises a steam chamber 8 in a body 1, 2, a handle 4 on the body extending across and in spaced relation with the cover 2 of the body, a water reservoir 12 positioned between the handle and the body, the top portion of the reservoir being located directly adjacent to the underside of the handle, and the handle along its length projecting beyond the side walls of the reservoir to provide a hand grip along opposite sides of the reservoir, and an orificed member 14 for supplying water from the reservoir to the steam chamber. The top portion of the reservoir is received in a longitudinally extending recess 19 in the underside of the handle and its rear portion in a forwardly facing cavity 7 in a handle post 3 fixed to the cover 2 by screws 28. A filling tube 16 for the reservoir has a forwardly facing opening provided with a thimble 18 to give a finished appearance. The lower portion of the reservoir extends through a longitudinal slot 13 in the cover 2 and is supported on a cover plate 9 for the steam chamber 8.
