Handle pillars 20, 21 are provided with cavities 40, 37 to aid cooling, the rear one 37 also being used to lead through the cable 25 from the side of the iron. A large thermostat control dial 18 has material markings and ribs 63 which project laterally beyond the handle 19 and can easily be seen and manipulated by the user.
