An electric iron comprises a body having a steam chamber 14 therein, a handle 4 connected by pivot means 5 to the body whereby it may be moved from an ironing position, Fig. 1, to a folded position against the body, a water supply pipe 23 connected to the steam chamber 14, the outer end 24 of the pipe terminating in the vicinity of the handle pivot means, a water reservoir 27 in the handle, and conduit means 35 including hinge means connecting the reservoir to the outer end of the pipe 23. The handle is held in its ironing position by latch means 42, 43 which can be released by pressure on a pad 44 of heat-resistant material. The handle 4 has a downwardly facing cavity in which the reservoir 27 is held by means of brackets 28, 29. The conduit means 35 is a flexible tube of heat-resistant material. The reservoir 27 has a filler plug 33 with an air vent 34. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the reservoir 27a is connected to the steam chamber by means of two pipes 36a, 23a hinged together at 35a. Fig. 7 shows a further modification in which the reservoir 27 is made of rubber or other flexible material and the flexible tube 35 extends through an opening 58 in the rear wall of a handle pillar 7 and is detachably connected at 59 to the outer end of the pipe 23. In order to fill the reservoir the end 59 of the tube 35 is detached from the pipe 23 and dipped into water in a suitable receptacle, an extra length 35a of the tube 35 allowing this to be done. The reservoir is then collapsed and released a few times by squeezing it with the fingers, a vent 63 being covered by the thumb. The handle 4 may be moulded in two halves connected together by fasteners 57, and is pivoted at 5 and held in its raised position by latch means 52, 53.
