763,669. Cycle frames. SOC. D'APPAREILS DE CONTROLE ET D'EQUIPMENT DES MOTEURS S.A.C.E.M. Nov. 12, 1954 [Nov. 14, 1953 ; Sept. 13, 1954], No. 32908/54. Classes 136(1) and 136(3). In a bicycle having pedals and a sprocket 9 driving by means of a chain 8 the rear wheel of the bicycle, the frame being constituted by the assembly, on the one hand, of a front portion consisting of a tubular element 1 carrying at its front end the frame head tube 2, sloping downwardly toward the bottom bracket shell 3 and curving towards its rear end so that its lowermost portion is substantially horizontal, and on the other hand, of a rear portion consisting of a triangle-shaped unit constituted by the assembly of the arms of a horizontal fork 4, of oblique rods 5 and of a seat pillar element 6, the lowermost portion of the tubular element is situated at the same level as the arms 4 of the horizontal fork, these arms being rigidly fastened to the element 1 and being located over their whole length at least partly above the upper portion of the chain 8, the arm 4 which is on the same side as the chain being formed with upper and side flanges in such manner that the arm acts as a chain protector. As shown in Figures 2 and 3 the arms 4 extend frontwardly into the space between the pedal cranks 20 so as to form a support upon which the rider can rest his feet. This support is at a higher level than the top portion of the sprocket 9. The chain 8 is further protected at the front of the chain sprocket by a shield 19 the upper edge of which is held by a bolt 14 between the arm 4, on the same side of chain, and a corresponding spacer sleeve 16, (Fig.) 5.
