Abstract
763,579. Earth-boring apparatus. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. Sept. 15, 1953 [May 15, 1953], No. 10811/55, Divided out of 763,577. Class 85. In the drawworks of an earthboring rig a shaft 14 driven in one direction from a shaft 12 through one of several drive transmissions of differing gear ratios e.g. transmissions 32, 50, 54; 33, 51, 46 and 34, 52, 48 or in the opposite direction through transmission 35, 62, 15, 63, 65, 64. The sprockets 32, 34 and 35 are keyed to the shaft 12 whilst the sprocket 62 can slide axially of the splined shaft 19 to engage with sprocket 35. Sprockets 34 and 64 are mounted on a common hub which can be engaged to or disengaged from the shaft 12 by a splined clutch 37. Sprockets 44 and 46 can be independently connected to the shaft 14 by a common clutch 49 and the sprocket 48 is keyed to the shaft 14. The drives from the shafts 14 to the drum shaft 16 forms the subject-matter of Specification 763,577 which is referred to.
