Abstract
763,497. Inductors. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Feb. 18, 1955 [April 21, 1954], No. 11517/54. Class 38 (2). A variable inductor comprises one or more coils 13, disposed in a magnetic circuit member 4 which also includes a permanent magnet 1 and an element, which may be the magnet, which is movable to vary the density of flux in the magnetic circuit. The magnet is mounted on a spindle 5 which is pressed by a spring 11 compressed between the magnet 1 and a brass strip 10 against a bearing member 8 in a brass strip 9. The strips 8, 9 join the two ends 2, 3 of member 4 between which the magnet 1 lies. A magnetic screen 12 surrounding magnet 1 provides a path for the leakage flux when the magnet is rotated from the position shown of minimum inductance. The coils 13 are flattened toroids surrounding cylindrical ferrite cores. To avoid the need for screen 12, ends 2, 3 may surround the magnet, Fig. 4 (not shown). In a modification, the magnet 1 is stationary and the movable element is a magnetic member which rotates between a position in which it completes the magnetic circuit through the coils and a position in which the flux is diverted to a shunt path, Fig. 5 (not shown).
