763,477. Operating railway points. SIEMENS & GENERAL ELECTRIC RAILWAY SIGNAL CO., Ltd., and RIDDLE, H. J. N. Feb. 11, 1955 [Feb. 11, 1954], No. 4072/54. Class 104 (1). [Also in Group XXVIII] In a pneumatically or hydraulically operated railway points machine comprising a fixed centre member 1 to which a pair of bellows 5, 7 are attached extending coaxially one on each side with a pair of closure members 8 one each secured in the outer ends of each bellows 5, 7 and joined to one another by rods or tubes 13, 14 axially slidable in a plane parallel to the bellows axis the arrangement is such that air passed through pipes 11 or 12 in the centre member 1 inflates one or other of the bellows 5 or 7 to cause a corresponding deflation of the other bellows 7 or 5 and a movement of the rods or tubes 13, 14 relative to the fixed centre member 1. The bellows 5, 7 are strengthened by metallic rings 17 fitted round the narrow parts thereof or by washers 18, Fig. 4, similarly fitted and recessed at 20 so as to slidably engage the rods or tubes 13, 14. The bellows may be in the form of a helix the strengthening wire following the narrow portion of the helix and being secured at each end.
