Abstract

Metals to be de-scaled are first treated in a pickling bath and then subjected to sonic or ultrasonic oscillations in a second bath, e.g. a water bath, the oscillations being caused to operate on the metals with such high energy that cavitation takes place. Preferably, a plurality of sound emitters are used and arranged in staggered relationship so that the metal to be de-scaled may be guided between said emitters and thus subjected to oscillations alternately from at least two sides. A pickling bath of 10 per cent H2SO4 is referred to.
