[Also in Group XX] To eliminate sound interference in a loudspeaker installation 9 caused by operation of an ignition apparatus 2 which supplies voltage impulses of high peak value to a H.P. gas discharge lamp 1 in a cinematograph projection and sound reproduction installation, a switch 3 which controls the ignition apparatus 2 switches off the loud-speaker installation during the period of ignition. As shown, the switch 3, of the multi-contact push-button type, has a contact 4 closure of which energizes the ignition apparatus 2, and simultaneously with such closure another contact 5 closes to short-circuit the output side of an amplifier installation 6 across a protective resistance 7 while another contact 8 opens to switch off the loud-speaker installation 9 from the amplifier installation 6. Interference sounds in the loud-speaker installation caused by operation of the contact 8 may be reduced by coupling to the contact 8 one or more rotary resistances (not shown) which reduce the current in the installation practically to zero before its switching off.
