Abstract

762,889. Sampling liquids. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO., Ltd., GAUL, M., and CARTER, D. O. May 20, 1955 [March 2, 1954], No. 6046/54. Class 106 (5). A sampling device consists of a support 10 having one or more bottle carriers 11 rotatably mounted thereon and means for holding the bottle carriers against rotation so that they and the bottles may be maintained in the inverted position while being lowered into the liquid, and at the required depth may be allowed to rotate with the bottles into the upright position in which the bottles fill with liquid. Each carrier 11 consists of a flat plate 13 provided with a pivot pin 18, a base plate 14, a spring clip 15 and an apertured top plate 16. The pin 18 engages a tubular bearing secured to the support 10 and is held therein by a transverse retaining pin (not shown) while a plate 21 formed with an inclined slot 22 is secured to the base plate 14. This slot is engaged by a pin 23 secured to a collar 24 which may be caused to slide along the support 10 by a bar 25 mounted in collars 26. When the bar 25 is raised by handles 27, the pin 23 passes out of the slot 22 and moves the carrier 11 from the vertical position so that it rotates under its own weight into the upright position in which the bottle fills.
