762,712. Hand irons. HECLA ELECTRICS PROPRIETARY, Ltd. Aug. 23, 1954 [Sept. 14, 1953], No. 24508/54. Class 138 (2). The sole - plate of a smoothing or pressing iron of the type adapted for movement relative to damp fabric being pressed is characterized by the provision of a series of grooves or channels 3, 3c, in the ironing surface which are laterally spaced to form a series of co-aligned ironing surfaces, the majority of the grooves being continuous with their opposite ends extending through the marginal edge of the sole-plate at the same side. In cross-section the grooves may be U-shaped, V-shaped or in the form of a dovetail. It is stated that the provision of grooves 3, 3c permits the use of a sole-plate of light weight.
